Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) is an NCAA Division I men’s and women’s ice hockey conference comprised of 16 programs representing 14 member institutions across Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, and Pennsylvania. AHA seeks a dynamic and creative communications professional to serve as its next Director of Communications. This position leads the conference’s communications, media relations, branding, digital content, and storytelling efforts while helping elevate the visibility and reputation of Atlantic Hockey America and its member institutions. Reporting directly to the Commissioner, the Director of Communications works collaboratively with conference staff, athletic administrators, coaches, institutional communications personnel, and external partners. The position also oversees the conference’s Digital Media Manager. This is a remote, full-time, 12-month appointed position. Preference will be given to candidates located within or near the conference footprint. The role requires some travel and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and select holidays during the hockey season. Job Expectations: Lead and manage all conference communications, media relations, and external messaging initiatives to strengthen and grow the AHA brand. Serve as the primary media relations contact for the conference, including: Coordinating media days and championship media operations Producing press releases and regular conference communications Managing conference awards programs Maintaining statistical records and archival information Increasing national media exposure for the conference and member institutions Oversee conference broadcasting, streaming, social media, and digital media operations, serving as the primary liaison with third-party vendors and platform partners. Develop and execute strategic communications and content plans across digital, social, print, and multimedia platforms. Manage conference website administration, content updates, and user experience enhancements. Create and oversee marketing campaigns, graphics, and promotional collateral to support conference initiatives and championship events. Collaborate with organizations including NCAA Division I, College Hockey Inc., NHL, PWHL, USHL, CHL, USA Hockey, and Hockey Canada, as appropriate. Attend conference championships and postseason events to enhance the student-athlete and fan experience while increasing local and national exposure. Work collaboratively with campus and community partners, including local tourism and convention bureaus, to support event promotion and engagement. Support the Commissioner with league reports, meeting materials, agendas, and minutes. Collaborate with peers throughout Division I athletics and the hockey community to identify best practices and operational efficiencies. Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in sports communications, athletics administration, marketing, public relations, or a related field within collegiate or professional sports.
Strong understanding of NCAA Division I athletics, including men’s and women’s ice hockey governance and operations.
Demonstrated experience with social media strategy, digital communications, and emerging communication technologies.
Proficiency in website management, content management systems, and statistical software platforms.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, or comparable graphic design platforms.
Exceptional written, verbal, editing, and proofreading skills, including experience drafting press releases and external communications.
Excellent organizational, administrative, and project management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Self-motivated and collaborative professional with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and maintain responsiveness and professionalism.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively during the hockey season and work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.
Proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or advanced degree preferred.
Knowledge of the evolving landscape of NCAA Division I athletics and college hockey.
Atlantic Hockey America embarks on its third season in 2026-27. After 21 seasons, the Atlantic Hockey Association rebranded to Atlantic Hockey America following the 2023-24 season. The new era of Atlantic Hockey features both a men's and a women's league, with 16 programs across 14 member institutions in the 2026-27 season.
Currently, Atlantic Hockey spans seven states, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains. The conference fields nine men's programs (Bentley University, Canisius University, The College of the Holy Cross, Niagara University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Military Academy), and seven women's programs (University of Delaware, Lindenwood University, Mercyhurst University, Penn State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University and Syracuse University).
