Job Description:
Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness (SDFW) engages the Arizona State University community through co-curricular experiences that promote lifelong health and well-being. Across all campus locations, SDFW provides intentional programs and offerings in state-of-the-art facilities that advance student success. SDFW is part of Educational Opportunities and Student Services (EOSS) and works collectively to advance the student experience through opportunities that foster community, develop skills, and support holistic well-being.
The Assistant Director oversees the planning, organizing, and tactical leadership of the Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness department at the campus level. Through leading the professional staff and student workers, the Assistant Director ensures all programs and services support student well-being, academic success and align with SDFW and EOSS priorities. This position is officed out of the ASU Polytechnic campus and serves as a member of the university-wide Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness management team.
Pay Rate: $55,000 - $57,000 per year
Essential Duties:
Manages all elements of Sun Devil Fitness and Wellness that serve the local campus community, including delivery of dynamic and effective programs, management and oversight of the day-to-day operations, and staffing (full-time and part-time).
Directly supervises 1-3 full-time staff members who oversee intramural sports, aquatics, safety education, marketing, fitness programs, and operations.
Supervises the coordination of student staff across all departments. Responsibilities include recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluations of all student staff members.
Manages the student wage budget, operational budget, and programming budget for the location.
Collaborates with the Dean of Students office on engagement programs focusing on community within the campus, in addition to coordinating efforts with Housing and Academic colleges.
Provides support for various academic classes and sports teams for the ASU Poly Prep Charter School at the Polytechnic campus.
Assists in the strategic planning process, working directly with SDFW leadership and Dean of Students for the location.
Upholds program and operational protocols and ensure adherence to risk management practices.
Performs program assessments and evaluations to determine the ongoing needs of students at the location.
Maintains flexibility by utilizing critical thinking and independent problem-solving.
Perform other duties as specified.
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education or related field.
Preferred to have at least two years’ experience working in recreation and/or sports environment.
Experience as a team-oriented leader, able to effectively manage complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing priorities, comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Experience managing and developing employees and/or teams.
Demonstrated experience initiating collaborations with university and community partnerships.
Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving and sound decision-making abilities.
Demonstration of strong organizational skills and proficiency in project management.
Evidence of effective written, interpersonal, oral and verbal communication skills.
Experience maintaining effective working relationships, presenting to audiences, public speaking, analyzing problems, proposing effective solutions, and effectively delegating responsibilities to staff.
Experience meeting priority deadlines while providing accurate and excellent service.
