Works with the tourism manager to fulfill the division’s mission, which is to attract visitors to Wicomico County in order to stimulate the economy and enhance quality of life. This is done through the successful implementation of the tourism operations plan, which focuses on retaining, recruiting and attracting new visitors to Wicomico County. Work includes sales, budgeting, staff supervision, welcome center management and logistical planning. Wicomico County holds several amateur youth sports tournaments annually and also markets to groups, motorcoach and leisure travelers.
Must be organized and accountable. Must possess creativity, initiative, strong customer service skills and the ability to multitask. Event planning/execution and budgetary experience required. Must exhibit enthusiasm for the community and have an ability to lead and motivate members of the tourism industry. Must have supervisory skills for recruiting, motivating and evaluating performance of staff. Ability to interpret policy and procedural guidelines to resolve problems and questions. Extensive computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel to maintain complex records and compile reports from such records. Familiarity with CRM system a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, hospitality/tourism-related field or sports administration required. Progressive responsibility and training spanning five years or more to include sports programming, special event organization, services administration, personnel management, budgeting, service evaluation and grant writing. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
