This position is responsible for the strategic vision, overall management and operation of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex. The Fargo Sports Complex is a 415,000 square foot facility that includes, turf, basketball courts, ice sheets, pickleball courts, playground, walking track and other associated public amenities. The position will lead all aspects of business and facility operations and revenue generation including rentals, tournaments, concession and pro shop sales, partnerships, public relations, programs and events, operations, custodial, maintenance, safety, and security. This position directly supervises a professional staff responsible for various sections of day-to-day operations. The successful candidate will exhibit an ability to: shape strategy, drive execution, build organizational relationships internally and externally, recognize profitability and revenue potential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Provide structure, leadership, expertise and direction in the planning and execution of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex.
Analyze operations to evaluate the performance of the Fargo Parks Sports Complex and its staff in order to meet objectives, and to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
Design strategy and set goals for growth per established metrics and employ the annual work plan.
Prepare, manage, and monitor facility budget through proper forecasting and budgeting of anticipated costs of maintenance, production, and promotional needs.
Prepare and present reports concerning activities, budgets and other items affecting businesses or program services.
Delivery of superior customer service, achievement of high employee, customer satisfaction and performance relative to facility objectives.
Provide solutions to issues (e.g. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors).
Set, direct, plan and implement policies, objectives, and activities of organizations or businesses in order to ensure continuing operations and increase productivity.
Direct, assist and coordinate for the procurement of activities and events; negotiate contracts and agreements
Provide for control of day-to-day operations; assuring the coordination of plans, programs, tournaments and events; conduct post-event operational and financial review and analysis to achieve short and long-term business plan.
Coordinate all components of tournament operations including recruitment, schedule development, event setup, marketing and promotions and summary and event wrap up.
Implement corrective action plans to solve organizational or departmental problems.
Represent the Fargo Park District/Fargo Sports Complex and promote its objectives at official functions, or delegate representatives to do so.
Serve as liaisons between organizations, shareholders, and outside organizations.
Build strong relationships with the leadership of local business organizations and other community groups.
Ensure efficient and effective operation and upkeep of the facility, including capital maintenance and improvement projects, housekeeping and custodial and general maintenance items.
Empower employees to produce results by building team consensus to achieve a shared vision of the Fargo Park District:
Interviews, selects and trains department employees
Coaches employees in proper job performance techniques and procedures
Directs work of employee and sets/adjusts hours of work
Maintains records on employee productivity and appraises employees’ productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other change in status
Ensure employees work productively and develop professionally.
Handles departmental employee complaints and disciplines employees when necessary
OTHER FUNCTIONS: Evaluation of this position may also be based on performance of the following other functions, which include, but are not limited to:
Thorough knowledge of the generally accepted principles and practices of facility management to include operations.
Knowledge and experience in the methods of handling facility rentals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a financially successful facility.
Collaborate with marketing, sales, and social media teams to promote the Complex
Ability to successfully manage large crowds attending events.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with lessees, employees, patrons and support organizations.
Thorough knowledge of business management practices and procedures.
Ability to compile and maintain records for personnel scheduling, departmental budgeting, and facility scheduling.
Ability to exercise sound judgement and make proper decisions in handling incidents at all types of programs and events.
Considerable knowledge of interpersonal relationships unique to the public assembly facility service industry.
Ability to assist the program/event staff in the coordination, planning, management and operation of facility rentals, programs and events.
Proven ability to deal in a professional and cordial manner with the public attending events.
Handle complaints, disturbances or related problems with the public, staff or promoters in an effective and professional manner.
Communicates new developments in scheduling, staffing, events, and projects.
Following established park district policies and procedures in procuring resources.
Keeping direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
Carrying out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public.
Responding to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
Performing related duties as assigned or apparent.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, marketing, communications, special events, or related field is required
Five to seven years’ supervisory experience in Business/Hospitality Management and/or Facility Management is required
