Job Overview:

Sport Oregon’s mission is to drive economic and quality of life benefits to all Oregonians through sport. The Sports Tourism Development Manager - Portland will serve a key role in the overall Sports Tourism department at Sport Oregon, and will focus exclusively on sourcing room-night-producing sports tourism business in Portland. This team member will have a deep understanding of the sports tourism landscape, with extensive experience in hotel, facility, and/or rights-holder relationship management. A strong and productive relationship with Travel Portland will be essential for this new hire, as they will often partner with Sport Oregon on Portland-focused sporting events.

Job Duties:

• Serve as the primary contact and local expert for potential clients interested in hosting tourism-inducing sporting events in Portland

• Lead efforts in developing, organizing, and presenting customized bids to clients

• Manage and maintain up-to-date client and event information in Sport Oregon’s CRM (Salesforce)

• Communicate consistently with hotels, sports facilities, and tourism partners in Portland to keep up-to-date local knowledge to best serve our clients

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national sports rights holders and National Governing Bodies to create opportunity pipelines

• Develop and oversee facility database software

• Stay actively involved with industry associations in the form of committee and board presence

• Travel to 3+ industry trade shows/conferences yearly, along with special travel assignments for client meetings, pre-promos, and event research as needed

• Work collaboratively with internal marketing, events, and strategic partnerships teams to ensure efficient and effective organizational flow

• Conduct research as needed from clients, hotels, and/or attendees to develop accurate economic impact reports

Job Qualifications:

• Previous experience in sports tourism at a sports commission or CVB

• Proficiency with CRM software (Salesforce), Microsoft Office Suite, and web conferencing tools

• An ability to work collaboratively as part of a strong team, as well as independently, willingness to be challenged

• Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with franchises, universities, government, and high-level elected officials

• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and time management

• Able to manage confidential information with discretion

• Strong analytical, writing, and public speaking skills

• Ability to travel up to 10% (as needed)
