Assists the Tourism Manager in the successful implementation of the tourism strategic plan, which focuses on retaining, recruiting and developing events to increase tourism’s economic impact on the county. This includes sales, budgeting, staff supervision and logistical planning in support of tourism supported events. Events are largely focused on sports marketing, but the division is actively working to diversify its book of business.
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality/Tourism related field or Sports Administration required. Progressive responsibility and training spanning 7 years or more to include sports programming, special event organization, services administration, personnel management, budgeting, service evaluation, and grant writing may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
Must possess creativity, initiative, strong customer service skills and the ability to multi-task. Event planning/logistical support and budgetary experience required. Must exhibit enthusiasm for the community and an ability to lead and motivate members comprising the tourism industry. Must have supervisory skills for recruiting, motivating and evaluating staff performance. Ability to interpret policy and procedural guidelines to resolve problems and questions. Extensive computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel to maintain complex records and compile reports from such records.
Additional Salary Information: The Asst. Tourism Manager is a full-time salaried position with Wicomico County Government. The County offers a full healthcare and benefits package, including a pension plan.
