Utilizes direct mail, telemarketing and direct sales calls to solicit sports business. Draft bid specifications on a nonpartisan basis. Distributes single property leads to hotel and hospitality suppliers. Mediates service acquisition for multi-property functions between customers and hotels and hospitality suppliers.
Prepares bid proposals, prepares and makes sales presentations for multi-property functions, and coordinates sports sales missions to target cities. Prepares and hosts familiarization tours and site inspections for sports directors, athletic directors, coaches, commissioners and selected, targeted customers and clients.
Maintains liaison role with parks and recreation departments, local county schools, colleges, and university representatives to facilitate good working relationships.
Acts as the facilitator for the Fayetteville Area Sports Authority (FASA).
Assists in organizing FASA committees and building membership.
Creates forums for fundraising activities (sports banquets, golf events, college, and high school exhibition games).
Works with Fayetteville Area Parks and Recreation to create a contract to secure sports facilities at a reduced rate and ensures the FASA has the first right of refusal with facilities.
Ensures photos are taken at sporting events and photos are uploaded to FACVB shared drive.
Maintains liaison role with area accommodations, general managers and respective sales staff to facilitate good working relationships.
Follows up on leads and closes bids to produce assigned annual quota of hotel room nights. Tracks Leads to determine booking or lost business. Information is also used to create reports internally and externally within the Simple View database.
Prepares a performance report for the director of sales to include all components of booking business. This shall mean lead generation and pertinent pace reports, and others as determined and needed by the CEO, to be reviewed monthly.
Provides feedback for the development of the sports portion of the annual marketing plan. Implements sports responsibilities of marketing plan/program of work.
Conducts extensive account research to generate computer scheduled appointments for designated tradeshows and coordinates Fayetteville’s participation in trade and travel shows. Attends various sports meetings, conventions and industry-related functions to promote and book the Fayetteville area as a destination for all sports.
Works within budget constraints by providing information for the implementation of sports activities of the FACVB. Achieve assigned goals.
Provides input and oversight to tradeshows or project specific promotional material in coordination with the sales team.
Establishes and maintains accurate account information through suggested systems, including automated account system. Seeks training opportunities.
Handles complaints and suggestions from clients expeditiously for promoting excellent customer relations and refers any unresolved situations to the director of sales.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the practices and techniques of marketing and sales promotion to include a working knowledge of contracts and bids procedure, financial and other requirements.
Ability to work and maintain a working knowledge of the tourism industry and convention and visitors bureaus and a thorough knowledge of Fayetteville area accommodations, attractions, meetings facilities, restaurants, and related businesses.
Ability to represent the FACVB in a positive, professional manner to make professional presentations and to communicate clearly, effectively and concisely orally and in writing.
Ability to implement marketing and promotion strategies designed to increase bookings of sports facilities in the greater Fayetteville and Cumberland County area.
Ability to establish, prepare and maintain accurate interpretative or analytical sales or marketing statements and reports and to establish, prepare, and maintain accurate sports files, checklists, and related records.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and complete work routine in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Ability to operate within and provide a work environment that promotes clear and open communication.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with other employees, governmental agencies and business officials, and sports, and travel and trade clients.
Ability to analyze problems and recommend practical solutions to operate effectively without close supervision and to exercise sound judgment and discretion in the performance of duties.
Ability to prepare promotional and sports material, eg: sales kits, bid packages, and related materials.
Ability to travel with a reliable vehicle.
Minimum education and experience requirements:
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university with a minor in English, marketing, business, or related field. This may be substituted with direct experience in the sports arena. CVB and hotel sales experience preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of computer operations and programs.
Conditions of Employment:

Title: Sports Sales Manager
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work required.
Status: Exempt, At-will, 90-day probationary period.
Nature of Work: Performs responsible, professional and supervisory work in the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc by aggressively marketing and promoting Fayetteville and Cumberland County as a destination for meetings and conventions. Considerable judgment and initiative are required in developing and implementing sales activities, makes sales presentations, negotiates service acquisitions between groups and vendors and prepares specifications and proposals. Attends various trade and travel shows to promote Cumberland County resources. Work is performed with a high degree of independence and under the general supervision of the director of sales. Performance is evaluated through reviews of accomplishments and attainment of objectives.
