The Sports Sales Manager is a mid-level manager in the Sports Marketing Department of the GRCVB (known as the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance or GRSA) who is responsible for implementing strategies to identify, solicit, secure and retain sports events that will take place in the Greater Raleigh Area/Wake County. The role will solicit new sports business and maintain existing sports business, promote Greater Raleigh as a premier sports destination, and contribute to the team goal of increasing Greater Raleigh’s share of the sports tourism market. This includes, but is not limited to, prospecting and qualifying potential opportunities, building leads, communicating with hotels and other stakeholders, and developing winning proposals.
Demonstrate efficiency in business development and relationship building.

Represent the Bureau and the destination itself in the most positive and professional manner (adhering to the Bureau’s social media policy and Employee Handbook at all times).
Be a proactive self-starter and have a curious outlook related to searching for events, clients and trends in the sports tourism industry.
Requires independent judgment in the course of carrying out overall responsibilities.
Responsible for developing and executing sales plans to create awareness of the destination and aggressively pursue all sports tourism opportunities to exceed goals within a portfolio of assigned accounts and territories.
Responsible for prospecting new business in the sports market. Develops and fosters relationships with sports event organizers/planners to create new business and sustain existing business.
Develops and fosters relationships with appropriate GRSA partners and stakeholders to effectively represent and sell Greater Raleigh as a destination for sports. Serves as a liaison between hotel/sports facility personnel and event planners.
Make necessary decisions to operate within budget.
Meets or exceeds established sales goals, while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Responsible for timely and accurate input of data into the Visit Raleigh sales management software program.
Assists in the development of bid documents, presentations and the coordination of site inspections.
Responsible for professional written and verbal communication with clients, partners and a variety of other professionals.
Represents the GRSA at local and nationwide meetings and tradeshows (travel required) sponsored by national, state and local organizations related to sales, sports and the hospitality industry to increase business opportunities by enhancing relationships and knowledge of the destination and venues.
Attend GRSA-backed events locally to ensure the needs of the local host partners/event organizers have been met (may require occasional after-hours during the week and weekends)
Maintains the prospect database, receive sports RFPs and coordinate a bid calendar to ensure the department remains focused on sales efforts.
Works closely with internal staff, sports clients and event partners to gather all relevant data from events to produce appropriate final reports and maintain archive for future use.
Work closely with the sports services staff to ensure that event owner/client needs are met.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB-RELATED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Excellent written communication/promotional writing/verbal communication skills
Minimum 3 years of sales experience in the hospitality, convention, or sports industry, ideally with a minimum of two years in sports tourism.
Extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry and its importance to the local economy; ability to understand the role of the GRSA in the community and move the image of the organization forward.
Possesses excellent time management skills, outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Strong background in delivering outstanding customer service.
Computer literacy including strong MS Office skills, familiarity with client database management and accounting systems, and an ability to create bid presentation materials.
Ability to think strategically and make decisions and recommendations that are in line with the organization’s strategic objectives.
Ability and willingness to work hours that exceed a typical Monday through Friday 40-hour work week, as required.
Bachelor’s degree (required) in sports administration, sports management (preferred), business/management, marketing, tourism or a related degree.
General working knowledge of CVB and sports tourism industries required.
Telecommuting is allowed.
