The Sports Development and Sales Leader works to increase out-of-state visitation to Delaware through recruiting and assisting sporting events in the state. The leader will work with the Director of Tourism, state stakeholders and the Delaware Sports Commission (DSC) to establish the state as a destination of choice for sports events. This position will generate leads and develop relationships within designated sports markets. The Sports Development and Sales Leader will work with the public, service organizations, business leagues, media and other interest groups that contribute to Delaware’s sports industry and economic development efforts. The Sports Development and Sales Leader will be responsible for coordination of an annual sporting event through the DSC. The position is results oriented and demands persistence and resourcefulness to achieve the objectives set forth.
Associates’ or Bachelor’s degree in sports management, marketing, hospitality, business administration
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
Highly experienced in sales and marketing
Excellent communication skills both written and oral form
Familiarity with statewide sporting venues, sports organizations and hospitality partners
Able to manage sales leads, bids and reporting
Strong organizational skills
Experience in using a CRM database
Able to travel and work nights/weekends
Able to handle working with strict deadlines
Experience in working at trade shows and sales events
