The Tourism Division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) promotes the State of Georgia as a tourism destination. Reporting to the Division Director, the Director of Tourism Research gathers, analyzes and evaluates research, visitor data and program metrics to identify target markets and recommend strategies, measure performance and effectiveness and communicate insights.
Responsibilities include: Employing a strong knowledge of digital research and analytics, the Director of Tourism Research will identify and implement appropriate methodologies and best practices to produce accurate, reliable and cost-effective data on in-state, out-of-state and international travel volumes, impacts, trends and demographics; analyze travel data and market intelligence for use in target market selection as well as advertising, marketing and content strategies; identify and implement appropriate methodologies and best practices to measure and evaluate performance, effectiveness and ROI of marketing and advertising programs and campaigns; manage the development of brand research, visitor satisfaction surveys, focus groups and other qualitative research; develop reports, presentations, policy papers and white papers for dissemination to staff, stakeholders, legislators and media; oversee vendors and manage requests for proposals as required; educate Georgia tourism industry partners and opinion leaders by participating in conferences, workshops and panels that further the understanding of the impact of Georgia tourism and advance travel and tourism research methods and standards.

Master’s degree in economics, tourism, statistics or a closely related field AND one (1) year of experience in research or statistical analysis OR an equivalent combination of years of education and significant research experience.
Thorough knowledge of economics, market research principles and methods, digital analytics technologies, economic impact assessment techniques and statistical modeling.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Analytics.
Strong organizational skills, including project management; ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines and manage priorities.
Excellent and demonstrated interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
Ability to travel in-state and occasionally out-of-state
Master’s degree and four (4) years of experience in research or statistical analysis.
Experience in tourism/hospitality research, destination analysis, OTA market analysis
Budget development experience.
Two or more years of experience with integrated marketing campaigns
Familiarity with tourism industry management and tourism research vendors
Comprehensive knowledge of the State of Georgia, including destinations, attractions, history, natural resources, business and cultural assets.
