Summary of Manager, Travel and Lifestyle Media role:
The Manager, Travel and Lifestyle Media is responsible for working with traditional media channels that will drive consumers down the path to purchase using strategies and techniques that drive measurable and quantifiable outcomes. Traditional media includes both paid and earned tactics across magazines, newspapers, and online articles. The primary focus of this role is to achieve positive media coverage and audience reach by promoting and selling Greater Victoria as a travel destination. In this role, the incumbent is responsible for Tourism Victoria’s regional and domestic markets, as well as the global key markets that align with our strategic plan. This role will have a strong understanding of traditional media combined with knowledge of travel influencers and how these impact ROI for a destination such as Victoria. Leveraging their established networks and existing media contacts, they will ensure positive visibility and excellence in content across all platforms by assisting and working directly with media contacts, journalists and writers in producing factual, quality, attention-grabbing stories for our target markets. They will manage a small team and be an expert in travel media.
The ideal candidate for this role would have:
• A degree in communications or public relations, will consider diploma level. • At least 5 years’ experience in a public relations role and travel media role. • Established media contacts and relationships with key media outlets. • Experience mentoring and managing a small team, providing oversight of plans. • Strong understanding of media, what they need, and how to get it to them. • A strong knowledge of our key markets, including demographic and psychographic statistics and trends. • Proven track record of creating and amplifying content. • Ability to uncover great stories within the destination. • Inherent drive for innovative solutions and approaches. • Energetic, proactive, self-motivated and results-oriented.
