As the Sales Manager for the Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau (GNCVB) you will be responsible for creating sales revenue from new customers and maximizing revenue generation from existing accounts.
Duties include: Accurately forecasting business and market needs, formulating and implementing sales strategy, and achieving sales targets, while ensuring high customer satisfaction. You will be actively involved in managing accounts throughout the sales process including account prospecting, identification, penetration, sales process planning, presentation, negotiation, and closing.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the Newark travel/hospitality community. • Must be familiar with the meetings industry and experience using rate structure, group/travel packages, special deals and other negotiating tools. • Act as a liaison between member properties and the client. • Handle solicitation of all assigned sales accounts within a specific market segment. • Prospect/research lead opportunities of new business to distribute to GNCVB stakeholders and partners. • Responsible for meeting or exceeding annual room night goal. • Conduct 5-10 in person sales calls a month in accordance with your annual action plans. • Responsible for attending industry trade shows, both local and out of town, and at any community functions and networking opportunities. • Conduct and manage all client requested site inspections, FAM Trips and direct sales initiatives. • Maintain accurate account information in computer system (Simple view) and in client files. • Any other duties as assigned by VP Sales & Marketing • Travel required: 15-20%
Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing or related field or 2-3 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. Hotel or CVB experience preferred; • Proven sales skills as they relate to sourcing new business, qualifying customers, lead development and follow-up, sales presentations and networking skills; • Must have excellent oral, written and customer service skills with the ability to communicate at all levels. • Must be able to work independently, highly motivated and capable of handling multiple tasks at any one time. • Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Experience with Hotel CRM a plus. • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel out of town to trade shows and meetings required. • Must be able to lift/carry up to 20lbs independently. • Familiarity with Newark, NJ or Northeast market is preferred.
